This is a guest post from one of my old clients detailing the steps they went through to land a staff accounting  job.

The art of finding a job in the current marketplace can be difficult and challenging. There are many obstacles out there a person must overcome to land a job in this day and age. The job market is even more competitive with fewer jobs available because of the state of the current economy which means more people who are qualified for the position are now competing for the limited number of jobs. Three main components to landing a job are persistence, a great resume, and following up with the employer.

Persistence and having a never quit attitude is extremely powerful and often overlooked. Many people often will look for a job and quit after the first time they are rejected by a potential employer, instead of moving on to other employers who might be out there looking for your talents, to connect with their company.

A person must unquestionably differentiate themselves from the crowd when applying for a job. When I was going for my staff accountant position, I made sure that a lot of time an effort was put into having my staff accountant resume stand out over the competing applicants who were also going for the job. I read several articles on monster.com and looked at sample staff accountant resumes.

Laying out your objective, and listing your skills is extremely beneficial. This is your chance to show your prospective employer how well you shine when compared to others. I would recommend to everyone to list their accomplishments and achievements and any experiences that relate to the job that they are seeking.

Following up with a potential employer or job of interest is also vital and was an influential factor I believe in helping me obtain the staff accountant job. I would always make it a practice of mine when looking to get a job and in this case it was no different to follow up with that particular company maybe on an average of 10-14 days.

I think 10- 14 days is enough time to keep your name out there floating and prevents you from not being forgotten about and at the same time it shows your enthusiasm for wanting to work with the company. I wouldn’t suggest daily follow-ups that could get annoying and a turn off to the company that you are trying to work for.

The process of finding a job isn’t an easy task, but it is a doable one. Showing persistence, having an impressive resume, and consistent follow-ups every 10-14 days, should bring you the job that you are seeking before you know it.
